Medium Gissa's

Gissa's medium is used for the differentiation of microorganisms on the ability to ferment sugars and alcohols. The medium indicator, bromocresol purple, during fermentation of the carbohydrate (alcohol) and acid secretion changes color from purple to yellow, which indicates the ability of bacteria to ferment the carbohydrate (alcohol). The semi-solid medium, seeding method is "pricking" a microbiological loop. The tubes are incubated at 37 ° C for 24 hours, then evaluate the color change.

The medium contains only one specific carbohydrate or alcohol. Now, LLC "Farmaktiv" produces 12 kinds of medium gissa with the following components:

  • arabinose

Bismut sulfite agar

Bismuth sulfite agar is used for selective isolation and differentiation of Salmonella. The composition of the medium causes inhibition of the growth of extraneous microflora, and the grown colonies are greenish-brown. This stimulated the growth of Salmonella and their ability to the recovery of bismuth allows you to define them by blackening of the colonies and environment under them. Sowing is carried out by the surface method, the incubation is carried out at 37 ° C for 48 hours.

Medium Levin's

The medium used for isolation and differentiation of Shigella. The complex indicator eosin-methylene blue stains the colonies which ferment the lactose in dark blue or purple (sometimes almost black). Microorganisms that are not able to ferment lactose grow as colorless colonies. Cultivate the seeded Petri dishes, 37 ° C for 24 hours.

Mueller-Hinton agar

The culture medium used for the analysis of the sensitivity of microorganisms to drugs disco-diffuse method. To conduct the study, the medium is seeded "lawn" way with an analyzing culture, and then placed antibiotics on the surface of the disks, no more than 6 pieces in a Petri dish. Cultured at 37 ° C for 24 hours. The results were evaluated by a zone of stunted growth around the disc.

In addition to traditional agar Mueller-Hinton, we also produce a modification with glucose and methylene blue for analysis of the effectiveness of the antifungal (antimycotic) drugs.

Nutrient medium recommended by the Health Ministry of Ukraine Order № 167 from 05.04.2007 to determine the sensitivity of microorganisms to the antibacterial preparations disco-diffuse method.
